What I do

Since 2010 I have worked as a psychologist at various mental health institutions. For many years I was also a Brazilian zouk dance teacher. Since 2021 I have combined my knowledge and experience as a psychologist with my work as a breath coach and body-oriented therapist.

In my practice I guide people who notice that talking alone is not always enough. Sometimes you know very well what you are up against, yet you cannot truly let go of patterns, tension or emotions. That is exactly when it can help to involve the body as well as the mind.

How I work

What sets me apart is that I look beyond the complaint or the problem. I see you as a whole: with your thoughts, emotions, body, experiences and personal history.

From a holistic approach we explore together what is going on beneath the surface. Which patterns are holding you back? Where did blockages arise? And what do you need to experience space again and take a next step?

I believe the body plays an important role in processing distressing experiences and trauma. Experiences can settle not only in our thoughts and emotions, but can also be felt in the body. That is why I combine my psychological background with body-oriented methods.

Depending on what suits you, we can work with breathwork, bodywork and EMDR, among other things. This creates room not only to understand what is happening, but to actually feel and process it.

Where I come from

My interest in body-oriented work did not come only from my training, but also from my own experience.

Alongside my training as a psychologist I have always had a strong passion for dance. In 2009 I started Brazilian zouk. Dance became a way for me to deepen my connection with myself and with another person, through movement.

At a certain point I noticed that through overload I had lost contact with my body and my emotions. My own search brought me into contact with bodywork, breathwork, tantra and reiki. Through this I learned to listen to my body again, to sense and state my boundaries better, and to take up more space.

This personal development became an important foundation for my further deepening in body-oriented therapy and breathwork. It brought together my knowledge of trauma and the human mind with my experience of the body.

From that combination I guide people in exploring and releasing patterns, tension and blockages, so that there is more room again for movement and growth.

Training & experience

In 2019 I completed my training as a healthcare psychologist (GZ-psycholoog). I have also trained in, among other things:

  • ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
  • Mindfulness
  • EMDR
  • Lomi Lomi bodywork
  • Reiki 2
  • Breath coaching
  • BRTT (Body Remembers Trauma Therapy)

Through these different trainings and my many years of experience in mental health care, I have a broad foundation of psychological and body-oriented methods. I use this knowledge to attune my guidance as closely as possible to what you need.

Experiences

What people say about sessions with Jolien

I came for my sleep and found out I had been holding my breath for two years. What helped me is that she explains exactly what is happening. No vagueness, but real depth.

MMariekeLisse

She sees more than what you came for. I expected we would talk about my work, and afterwards I understood something about myself I had been walking around for years.

DDaanLeiden

As a psychologist she knows where the line is. That gave me the confidence to go further than I would have dared on my own.
